Week five of Middle Ages History had us researching the early Christian church, notable church figures, monasteries, missionaries, monks, the supremacy of the pope, and the church's organized, elaborate hierarchy and societal influence during the Middle Ages.
Because our weekly topic was quite broad, we opted to define monks as it was a more specific and detailed term.
In class, we defined Monks as: A medieval monk was a male servant of God who withdrew from society, lived in monasteries, and fulfilled communal roles such as - teachers, doctors, abbots, scribes, etc.
